Day 1 Seoul

This morning I woke at 4.30am, way too early but my Tripit alarm went off.  I forgot to silence it.
Not to worry - we were soon in our Uber, going to the airport on the first leg of our four week adventure to Europe, via Seoul.
We had taken advantage of a business class special on Korean Air (still $10,000 but half the price of some), and went straight to the Priority Pass Lounge.  We have been there before but have paid $75 each for the privilege.  Small savings!
It was a little early for alcohol in this lounge, not even a nice Prosecco, so I had a refreshing ginger and lime juice while Neil had his first breakfast.  I was saving my appetite for the plane.
After a short relax, charging our phones and getting a bit excited, we boarded our KE124 A333-300 aircraft and took off right on time, at 8.25am.
Our seats, 8G/H, were cosy, although not huge.  We have been spoiled by Emirates flying business and first class to New Zealand, but it doesn't pay to compare.  It still beat economy!
The food and drink were interesting - a few courses but not a lot was recognisable or large.  And then came five hours of no service whatsoever.  I imagine if we had pushed a button someone would have come, but instead we listened to our own entertainment, which was more interesting than that on offer. I watched Saving Private Ryan, bearing in mind that we were going to Normandy, and had forgotten how gory it was!
After consuming Neil's wine because I didn't have enough, I managed a quick nap before landing at Terminal 2 in Seoul.  Then we were herded onto a shuttle to the Hyatt Hotel, still at the airport, as Korean Air does not fly overnight from there.  The hotel was packed with transit passengers, but it was nice and the buffet dinner was delicious.
We had intended to take public transport into the city, but it turned out to be not as easy as we expected, and so we stayed at the airport instead. I was hoping to visit Gangnam and other parts of the city I had heard about.  Next time we will stay longer and explore the area properly.
We went to bed fairly early, after planning to have a look around the local area in the morning.
