We were packed and ready to leave Anne and Phil's place at 8.30 am, getting the bus from outside the supermarket to Oldham Mumps. From there we caught the tram to the National Express depot in Manchester, the second leg of our trip down to Wells, via Birmingham.
We waited an hour in Birmingham (no time to look around) before leaving for Bristol and finally a First Bus to Wells. Our friend Lynn, who I have known since school in New Zealand 50 years ago (!) met us at the stop. We were expecting our other friend Beryl (also from NZ all those years ago) but she had to cancel her trip to the UK as she was in the middle of an urgent house sale. It was disappointing, but things happen, and we would see her in New Zealand six months later.
After catching up on the couple of years since we last met (when Lynn visited NZ in 2018 for the first time since she left as a teenager), over a bottle of Prosecco and a yummy spag bol, we went to bed. It had been a big travelling day, involving a bus, a tram then three more buses - eleven hours in all.
