Day 21 Brossac

Another big travelling day, reluctantly leaving Bayeaux at 8.30 am on the the first leg of our trip down to Brossac, where we would be volunteering as we did three years before.
The first train was just fifteen minutes into Caen, and after a ten minute wait we boarded the second train, this time to St Pierre des Cor, two and a half hours away.
The third train was an hour and a half later, down to Angouleme.  That took only an hour, but then we had a three and a half hour wait for the train to Chalais.  Paul, the manager of La Girardiere where we would be living and working, was meeting us there to drive us the final leg to Brossac.
The temperature in Angouleme was 34 degrees, and I was way overdressed, as the morning in Bayeux was much cooler.  I left Neil at the station while I walked into the centre of town to find a t- shirt, but it was very hilly and I suffered heat stress in the process.  It took a while for my red face to get back to normal, but I did get a t-shirt!
Paul picked us up from a bar at 6 pm and drove us the half hour or so to Brossac.  It had not changed at all, although this time we had the luxury of a double bed and a view out onto the back garden. We did two loads of washing, had tea and fell into bed.  Still no air conditioning, and probably never will be, so we braved the insects and left the shutters open all night.
